About the Author
My name is Becky Reese, and as of December 2014 I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Genetics with Honors. I currently work as a research intern in Anita Bhattacharyya's lab at the Waisman Center, which is also where I worked as an undergraduate. I am currently working on a manuscript that examines oxidative stress in Down syndrome neurons. In the summer of 2014 I interned in the lab of Neil Brockdorff, a developmental genetics lab at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. There, I researched proteins that could be involved in the epigenetic modifications that lead to the inactivation of the X chromosome in female mammals. This fall I will be starting the PhD program in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
I chose to investigate hereditary hemochromatosis after I took a genetic test through 23andme.com. I found that I was a carrier for hereditary hemochromatosis, and after looking more into the disease I was intrigued about what was in my genes. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to learn more about anything on this website or if you would like to hear about my experiences with using a personal genetic testing kit.
